About Us

Welcome back to our returning families, and welcome to those who are new to the Lightning Hawk team.  Our school has approximately 300 students in Grades 3-6.  Our goal for students is to move them forward in their academic growth in a safe and welcoming environment.  We take pride in academic excellence, inclusivity, celebrating diversity and respect for ourselves and others.  Our staff excels in planning and implementing programs that are grounded in the Ontario curriculum and encompass a wide variety of student needs.  We are all proud to be part of the excellence that is part of the Lightning Hawk community.

If you ever have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or the office.  We hope that the following information helps you and your child get ready for the start of school.

Safe Arrival/Departure

Our elementary students are part of the Safe Arrival program (BP 6810-D).  An elementary child’s absence must be reported by contacting the school at 519-396-7035 ext. 100 before 8:50 am or by sending a text to 519-372-7155, or let the school know in advance of the absence with a note or text.  Always make sure that the school has current phone numbers for home, work and cell as well as emergency contacts. If your child’s absence is not reported, the school will call contacts to ensure your child is safe.  As this takes a significant amount of time it is extremely helpful if you let the school know your child will be away.  If we cannot reach any contacts and your child has not been reported absent, we may do a wellness check on your child.

If your child rides a bus and will not be taking the bus home, the school needs to be notified BEFORE 2:00 PM as we need to remove them from the bus manifest. To ensure a smooth and uninterrupted end to the school day and help with the busyness of the office, any early pick-ups after 2:45 will be asked to wait until end of day bell at 3:10. We understand that last minute situations may arise, but we kindly ask that early pickups be reserved for necessary situations, such as medical appointments, to help minimize classroom disruptions.
